When the snow melted Purple class enjoyed dressing up as Pirates to celebrate World Book Day!
Cooking March 2018
Purple class enjoyed lots of different activities relating to our Book Week theme which was Pirates. We read a variety of fiction books about Pirates and then we had lots of fun carrying out different activities. After reading the book 'Pizza for Pirates' we made pizzas using muffins, fresh vegetables, tomato sauce and cheese. They were delicious!!
Maths March 2018
Throughout the week we enjoyed Pirate maths which included learning about symmetry. We went outside and designed Pirate flags with symmetrical patterns. We enjoyed reading the story 'A new Home for a Pirate' and then we designed our own Pirate Ships using 2D shapes, selecting shapes carefully based on their properties. Afterwards we worked in teams to build homes fit for a Pirate, using construction.
Purple Class have been learning about Portraiture. We have learnt about three famous artists; Gary Hume, Richard Hamilton and Gerhard Richter. We discussed their work and we used it as an inspiration to make our own portraits. We carefully drew faces before mixing our own paint to make various shades of grey. Finally we painted our portraits in the style of Gerhard Richter's work. We had lots of fun!!
In Maths we have been using various manipulatives such as cubes, counters and numicon to solve repeated addition word problems. We made groups of objects and wrote the matching repeated addition calculations. We also used dienes to partition numbers into tens and ones. Have a look at the fun we had!
