Hainault Forest Country Park trip June 2018
The Poppies were lucky enough to be able to visit Hainault Forest Country Park on a school trip, linked to our topic all about farms. We were very excited to be able to take the bus all the way and waited very sensibly at the bus stop. We had a lovely picnic in the park and we went visit the farm. We saw lots of animals in the farm including a turkey, peacock, pigs and even an alpaca! We then played some games in the park and enjoyed rolling down the grassy hills. We had a very fun day at the park and learnt lots about the new animals that we saw.
Country and Cultures week
Poppies have been learning all about Kenya. We read 2 different African stories: Were going on a lion hunt and Handa's surprise.
Miss Hewitt brought in all the different fruits from Handa's surprise and we tasted them. We had mango, passion fruit, guava, oranges, pineapple and avocado.
We went outside to the playground and went on our own safari, making observational drawings of the animals that we saw.
Finally, Miss Hewitt brought in some clothes all the way from Kenya to dress up in. We had so much fun learning about Kenya and its culture.
Fire Engine Visit May 2018
Our topic has been 'Safe and Sound' and we have been learning all about the emergency services and people who help us. We were extremely lucky to have the firemen bring their fire engine down to show us. They showed us all the different parts of the fire engine and spoke about the important job they have to do. Some of us got to try on the firemans helmet and we all got a chance to spray water from the hose. It was really good fun and we learnt lots about how firemen can help us, thank you for coming!
Mad Hair Day April 2018
Poppies really got into the spirit of mad hair day and enjoyed raising money for the NSPCC. What a great effort from everyone!
World book day March 2018
The staff and children in Reception really enjoyed dressing up for world book day. All the costumes were brilliant and we loved our teachers dressing up as characters from our story, 3 Little Pigs!
Cooking March 2018
In book week we learnt about the 3 little pigs. We made biscuits and decorated them to look like a pig. We had to mix all our ingredients together and then use a rolling pin to roll out the dough. We cut out a circle shape and then put them in the oven to bake. One they were cooked we covered them in pink icing, used marshmallows for a nose, chocolate chips for eyes and grapes for the ears. They were very yummy pig biscuits that we enjoyed making and eating.
Snow Feb 2018
When we came to school on Wednesday it had been snowing! We were very lucky and Miss Hewitt took us outside to explore and play in the snow. We had lots of fun making snowballs, snowmen and snow angels. There was so much snow everywhere! Once we were finished we came back inside for a lovely cup for hot chocolate to warm ourselves up.
Kite Making Jan 2018
In Reception we have been learning all about different types of weather. We were exploring the weather in the garden and it was a very windy day, so we made some kites. We tied string onto carrier bags and let them fly in the wind. They flew very high as we chose a very windy day!
The Poppies have been at school for 3 weeks now and have really been enjoying exploring and learning in the outdoor area. We are all hoping to learns lots of new things at school and become so clever!
