Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

Mr Robert Turner Chair of Governors

Welcome to the governance section of the Marks Gate website.

Governors are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and bring a range of skills and experiences to the role from within and outside the sphere of education.

We also participate in rigorous induction and ongoing training as part of the Borough Council School Improvement Service.

We aim to be representative of all the key stakeholders in the Marks Gate Federation and will include both parents, staff, members of the Borough Council and wider members of the community amongst our number.

As a board, we are part of the leadership and management structure of Marks Gate Federation and exercise oversight and challenge in a non-executive capacity to the Head of Service and the senior leadership team.

We also support Marks Gate by participating in events and acting generally in the role of ambassadors for the federation in terms of communications and in using our own resources to enhance the opportunities available to the young people in our charge.

If you would like further information regarding the work of the board of Governors or would like to contribute to our work, then please contact our clerk at ...

And now my profile as Interim Chair.

Originally from the East Midlands, Robert is an experienced educationalist with many years’ experience of teaching combined with providing operational senior leadership and advisory support to Schools, Local Authorities and Multi Academy Trusts.

A former Adviser on the Department for Children, Schools and Families National Challenge Programme, he is highly experienced in providing support for schools in challenging urban contexts.

He is a specialist in developing effective governance and, as an experienced Chair of Governors in his own right, Robert recently held a central role in supporting a challenging London Academy on its journey from requiring ‘Special Measures’ to ‘Good’ within 19 months.
